Anafi travel guide

Anafi was used as a place of exile in the early 1930’s by the dictatorship of the time due to its remoteness which has been the major determining factor for its meagre accommodations compared to other far more popular destinations.

There are only a couple accommodations in Agios Nikolaos and generally the island as a whole offers a total of 29 separately owned accommodations most of which are in Hora and all of which are very decently priced (this is the advantage of being “off the beaten track” as it were). The rest are scattered around the island at Klisidi, Simadia and Roukounas. Hora, being the capital obviously has several stores and taverns. A couple of small general stores and a total of three taverns round off the sum of commerce in Agios Nikolaos.
