Travel to Anafi island

Agios Nikolaos the port at which one disembarks is more like a throwback into the past, a quality taste of Greece’s islands in the 1950’s with a few small exceptions that remind you that you are in the present. It is so small that it barely qualifies as a harbour (although works are in progress). The ticket office has so little action it opens just before the ferry arrives. And if you are strapped for cash you will even find an ATM which is quite a leap in technology for this island. The total lack of high end tourism is basically due to the lack of a large enough berthing space for yachts. In fact the quay is only small enough to accommodate tying space for a few fishing boats and the ferry boat that quickly leaves for other islands. It is a total distance of about 155 nautical miles from Piraeus which in land terms is 279km and can be reached within a day.

Excursions are best started and ended at Hora and leaving the island is from the same place you get onto it, the port of Agios Nikolaos.
